Ukrainian forces from the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade recently ambushed Russian troops using a captured enemy radio. The video was published by the brigade and shared on social media by War Translated, showcases the cunning operation that unfolded near Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region.
The footage begins with Ukrainian soldiers discovering an intact Russian radio left behind by retreating Russian infantry. Recognizing the opportunity, a commander quickly ordered his troops to capture the radio frequencies and organize a deceptive operation. A Russian-speaking Ukrainian soldier transmitted a message, posing as part of the Russian battalion. This ruse convinced the Russian machine gunner to shift fire, avoiding what he believed were his allies.
As the Ukrainian soldiers advanced, they yelled in Russian to further the deception, enabling them to approach the Russian positions. By the time the Russian troops realized the soldiers nearing them were Ukrainian, it was too late. The Ukrainians opened fire, supported by drone strikes, causing the Russians to retreat in disarray across a field.
The video, recorded by cameras in the brigade’s headquarters and on the ground with the tanks and infantry, captures the entire sequence of events. Another clip highlights a Ukrainian tank firing three precise shots into a Russian stronghold, while infantry advanced along the trenches.
Moment the Ukrainian soldiers captured a Russian radio and tricked two Russians into not shooting at them. Upon getting closer to an enemy treeline, the Ukrainians opened fire. This, in addition to drone strikes, forced Russians to retreat.
