A U.S. airstrike early Monday killed at least 68 African migrants and injured 47 others at a detention center in Yemen’s Saada governorate, according to Houthi-affiliated media.
Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reported that the center, which reportedly housed 115 migrants, mostly Ethiopians, was hit four times shortly before 5 a.m.
A separate U.S. airstrike on the Bani al-Harith district, north of Sanaa, left eight people dead, Al Masirah TV reported.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has acknowledged ongoing operations in Yemen but declined to provide details. CENTCOM said since mid-March, it has struck more than 800 targets, killing hundreds of Houthi fighters and leaders under “Operation Rough Rider.”
“We are very deliberate in our operational approach, but will not reveal specifics about what we’ve done or what we will do,” CENTCOM said.
Later on Monday, the Houthis claimed missile attacks against the USS Harry S. Truman “and its associated warships” in response to the recent U.S. strikes. CENTCOM did not confirm the incident.
“The missile force launched a number of cruise and ballistic missiles and drones over the past hours. The resulting engagement and confrontation forced the carrier to retreat from its previous position and head to the far north of the Red Sea,” the Houthis said.
They also stated that attacks on U.S. vessels would persist “in the Red and Arabian seas until the aggression against Yemen is halted.”
The latest U.S. airstrikes have brought the death toll from American attacks on Yemen since March 15 to over 250, according to figures reported by the Houthis.
