The Ka-32, a multi-role helicopter utilized for various military and logistical operations, reportedly belonged to the Russian Ministry of Defense and was operational under the Moscow aviation center. According to HUR, the aircraft was specifically used to support the activities of the Russian military, which HUR referred to as the “occupation army.”
The attack is part of a series of actions taken by Ukrainian forces, which have included drone strikes and sabotage missions targeting Russian military assets and infrastructure within Russia itself.Â
The Ostafyevo airfield, which is operated in conjunction with Gazpromavia—a subsidiary of Russia’s state-owned gas company Gazprom—has not seen any official Russian response regarding the incident.
The destruction of the helicopter follows a pattern of increased Ukrainian activity inside Russia, targeting essential military and strategic locations. This strategy has been defended by Ukrainian officials as a necessary measure in their defense against Russian aggression, despite international concerns over the escalation of hostilities.
