Ukraine’s military has started using advanced FPV (First-Person View) drones to bring down Russian reconnaissance drones, thanks to rapid innovation spearheaded by Ukraine’s BRAVE1 technology accelerator. This government initiative has successfully fast-tracked the deployment of effective counter-drone technologies in the field.
Ukrainian soldiers from the 3rd Assault Brigade’s Terra unit have deployed heavy FPV drones with a 6-motor design capable of carrying 5-kilogram warheads. The drones have proven effective in destroying enemy fortifications and driving enemy troops from protected positions.
The initiative was set into motion by a recent call from BRAVE1 for drone interceptors that can autonomously track and neutralize targets such as the Russian Orlan-10, Zala, and SuperCam reconnaissance drones.
Videos have emerged showing Ukrainian FPVs intercepting Russian drones, including a Zala recon drone and an Orlan-10.The integration of these drones with air defense systems allows for efficient targeting and interception, reducing the consumption speed of the expensive air defense systems.
