While the US maintains that the land is still being contested, Ukraine releases video showing its soldiers driving back Russian positions in Bakhmut.Â
Ukraine has released helmet-camera footage showing its special forces clearing a Russian position in Bakhmut, claiming to have stopped the enemy and pushed them back. The Ukrainian military commanders reported recapturing more territory from Russian forces in Bakhmut, but it’s unclear if this marks the beginning of Kyiv’s anticipated counteroffensive. In a separate incident, Ukrainian rockets hit administrative buildings in Russian-occupied Luhansk. Russian Defense Ministry denied Ukrainian forces achieving “defense breakthroughs” but acknowledged increased attacks in the Bakhmut region. The territorial gains near Bakhmut were significant and protected an important supply chain. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy praised his troops and stated that the Russians were mentally prepared for defeat. The US confirmed that Bakhmut remains contested territory, emphasizing the fluctuating front lines.Â
