A Sudanese military aircraft crashed into a residential area in Omdurman, resulting in at least 46 fatalities. Among the deceased were senior military officers, including Major General Bahr Ahmed, a senior commander in Khartoum, who previously oversaw the military operations in the capital.
A military official confirmed that other senior officers, including Lt. Col. Awad Ayoub, as well as the aircraft crew, were also among the fatalities.
Local media reported that the aircraft was en route to Port Sudan, when it crashed over the Al-Thawra neighborhood in the Karrari district on Tuesday.

The crash also caused injuries to at least 10 individuals and damaged several homes in the Karrari district.
The cause of the crash has not been officially disclosed, but military sources told Reuters that a technical failure was likely the cause.
Aircraft incidents are relatively common in Sudan, a country with a history of aviation safety issues. In 2020, a military plane crash in the Darfur region claimed 16 lives. The recent crash in Omdurman is one of the deadliest aviation disasters in Sudan in the past two decades.
