On May 25, a Russian strike targeted a building materials supermarket in Kharkiv, killing 16 people and injuring 44 others. Among the casualties were a 12-year-old girl and her mother, according to Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov. The strike, carried out with two guided bombs, resulted in a large-scale fire, and rescue operations are still ongoing. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, noting that over 200 people may have been inside the supermarket at the time. He described the strike as a “brutal attack” and emphasized that Russia’s actions are aimed at creating chaos and destruction. Zelensky also highlighted the need for stronger air defense systems and modern combat aircraft to prevent such attacks.
The situation in Kharkiv remains tense, with Russian forces continuing their offensive in northeastern Ukraine. Over the weekend, Russian troops launched multiple attacks on Ukrainian frontline positions, including missile and drone strikes. Ukrainian officials reported that seven civilian people were killed by Russian strikes on May 23, targeting various civilian locations in Kharkiv.
