Raytheon Technologies has secured a $1.2 billion contract to provide Germany with additional Patriot air and missile defense systems, the company announced on Thursday. The contract is the second of its kind this year, as Germany bolsters its air defense capabilities and supports Ukraine.
The contract includes the latest Patriot Configuration 3+ radars, launchers, command and control stations, as well as associated spares and support. The components will enhance Germany’s existing air defense infrastructure by delivering four complete Patriot fire units. This follows a similar $1.2 billion contract awarded to Raytheon in March for another set of Patriot systems.
Tom Laliberty, president of Land and Air Defense Systems at Raytheon, stated, “Patriot remains the tried-and-true stalwart of air and missile defense, relied upon by our global customers to deter aggression and defend their interests. With each additional Patriot system, Germany is enhancing its own air defenses and strengthening NATO’s defense posture.”
The Patriot system is renowned for its ability to counter advanced long-range cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles, and various air-breathing threats. It is a cornerstone of air defense for 19 countries, including Germany, the U.S., and Ukraine, and has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness against threats.
Raytheon, a business unit of RTX (formerly known as Raytheon Technologies), has been a leader in defense solutions for over a century. The company’s expertise spans integrated air and missile defense, smart weapons, advanced sensors and radars, interceptors, and hypersonic systems with a workforce of over 185,000 employees globally.Â
