The Portuguese Army Special Operations Forces (SOF) are a unit of the Army Rapid Reaction Brigade based in Lamego, Portugal. They are trained and equipped to conduct activities in all spectrums of warfare and can operate independently or integrate with other troops. Their missions include performing studies and experiments with new tactics and gear, counter-terrorism, unconventional warfare, long-range reconnaissance patrol, and many others. They have been deployed worldwide and have participated in operations in countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Mali. The unit is equipped with modern weaponry and equipment, including FN SCAR assault rifles, AN PVS-21 night vision goggles, and Ops Core helmets.Â
