Under the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) screening program mandated by the PACT Act, nearly half of the 5 million veterans screened have reported potential exposure to toxic substances during their military service. Out of those screened, 43 percent, or 2.1 million veterans, may have been exposed to such hazardous materials, with common exposures including burn pits and Agent Orange. These exposures can lead to various cancers and health issues. The screening program seeks to improve healthcare and early detection of potential health challenges for affected veterans.
