Marine veteran Cooper “Harris” Andrews was killed in Ukraine during a mortar attack while defending civilians from Bakhmut on April 19th. His body has not yet been recovered due to intense fighting in the area. Andrews served in the Marine Corps from 2017 to 2022, leaving as a sergeant. He was described as a dedicated and passionate Marine. Andrews was a volunteer firefighter and taught self-defense classes. At least 12 Americans have died fighting in Ukraine since 2022, including Andrews. The US State Department is providing consular assistance to Andrews’ family.
