Kenyan Special Forces, in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP) and the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), launched a surprise raid targeting the base of Jimmy Cherizier, also known as “Barbecue,” a notorious Haitian gang leader.
The operation, carried out in the Baz Delmas area on Sunday, saw the deployment of a Killdozer, to breach the gang’s defenses. However, Cherizier managed to escape once again, along with several of his gang members. Drone surveillance played a crucial role in tracking his movements during the raid.

This marked the second attempt in recent days following a prior operation in the same area, which had forced a tactical retreat by security forces. This time, after studying the terrain and refining their strategy, MSSM forces made significant progress, penetrating the gang’s defenses and dismantling critical infrastructure within the base.
Commander Godfrey Otonge, leading MSSM operations in Haiti, confirmed the raid details on Monday, highlighting the mission’s focus on supporting the HNP to combat gang activity, protect vital infrastructure, and restore stability to Haiti.
Cherizier, a former police officer, leads the Revolutionary Forces of the G9 Family and Allies, a powerful coalition of 12 gangs controlling large parts of Port-au-Prince. G9 has been linked to a series of violent attacks, including kidnappings, blockades, and assaults that have destabilized the nation.
