An Israeli man was shot and seriously wounded on Monday evening in Qalqilya, a city in the West Bank, in an attack that also left two Palestinians injured. The gunman, identified as 18-year-old Tariq Daoud, was killed by Israeli forces after attempting to flee the scene.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the incident occurred near a car repair shop in Qalqilya, which is under Palestinian Authority control. The gunman opened fire on the Israeli man, seriously wounding him, and also injured two Palestinians nearby. Israeli troops pursued the attacker and “neutralized” him just outside the city, the IDF stated.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed Daoud’s death, stating that he was shot near the town of Azzun, east of Qalqilya. The ministry also reported that his body is currently being held by Israeli authorities. Hamas later claimed that Daoud was a “field commander” in its military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades.
The Israeli military reiterated the dangers and legal prohibitions against Israeli civilians entering Palestinian-controlled areas, known as Area A, where the attack took place. Despite these warnings, some Israelis continue to enter these areas, often due to lower prices for goods and services.
This latest shooting follows another deadly attack on Sunday, where 23-year-old Israeli Yonatan Deutsch was killed in a shooting on Route 90 in the northern Jordan Valley, highlighting the ongoing and escalating violence in the region.
