Israeli forces have allegedly struck a Syrian chemical weapons cache, according to a Channel 12 report. The network cited “foreign reports,” a method often used to bypass Israel’s military censorship. No independent confirmation of the strike has been made, and Israeli officials have not commented.
The attack comes as Syrian rebels, led by groups such as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), advance on Assad regime-held areas, raising fears that chemical weapons or other advanced weaponry could fall into the hands of extremists or Iranian-backed militias. Earlier this week, Haaretz reported that Israel is concerned about the potential proliferation of such weapons, warning that any transfer could lead to broader regional consequences.
Israel has reportedly conveyed warnings to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad through Russian intermediaries, urging him to prevent Iran from using Syrian territory for its operations. If chemical weapons are compromised, Israel has indicated it may take further action to prevent their use.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have increased their presence along the Golan Heights as Syrian rebel forces push closer to the Israeli border. In addition to the chemical weapons strike, the IDF has also targeted border crossings between Syria and Lebanon to disrupt weapons transfers to Hezbollah.
