Israel conducted a targeted airstrike in Beirut on Wednesday night, aiming at Hashim Safi al-Din, the head of Hezbollah’s executive committee and a potential successor to the group’s late leader, Hassan Nasrallah. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strike, which hit Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in the Dahiyeh suburb, a known Hezbollah stronghold.
Safi al-Din’s fate remains uncertain, as Israeli officials report he was in a deep underground bunker at the time of the strike. In addition, Hussein Hazimah, Hezbollah’s chief of intelligence, was reportedly present at the targeted location. While casualties are yet to be confirmed, the strikes are part of Israel’s broader campaign against Hezbollah leadership, following the death of Nasrallah last week. Lebanese sources noted the attack was larger than previous strikes and caused significant damage
