Retired Green Beret Scott Mann led an extraordinary operation called Taskforce Pineapple, saving the lives of countless Afghan partners in a harrowing 96-hour fight against the Taliban, which he chronicled in his book Operation Pineapple Express.
Lt. Colonel and Green Beret Scott Mann retired in 2013 but found himself drawn back to Afghanistan when former Afghan Special Forces operator Nezam reached out to him for help in escaping the Taliban. This led to the creation of Taskforce Pineapple and an extraordinary operation to save the lives of Afghan partners. Mann wrote a book about the mission, Operation Pineapple Express, which was released in August 2022. He said he did it to validate the stories and feelings of veterans and families. Mann also acknowledged the devastation left behind by the 20-year war in Afghanistan and encouraged the military community to take action instead of waiting for someone else to fix the situation.
