Eighteen Israeli soldiers were wounded in a Hezbollah drone attack in the northern Golan Heights on Sunday, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The attack, launched from southern Lebanon, targeted Israeli military personnel.
The IDF reported that multiple drones were launched from Lebanon, triggering alarms in the Galilee Panhandle and northern Golan Heights. One of these explosive-laden drones struck the Merom Golan area, resulting in injuries to the soldiers. One soldier was seriously wounded, while the others sustained minor injuries.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it targeted an Israeli military site in retaliation for earlier IDF strikes against the group. Following the drone attack, the Israel Air Force (IAF) conducted retaliatory strikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, including an observation post in Markaba and a rocket launcher in Ayta ash-Shab.
In response to the growing threat, the IDF has carried out numerous strikes against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of several Hezbollah operatives. On Sunday, IDF artillery and fighter jets targeted Hezbollah infrastructure and personnel in multiple locations, including Markaba, Ayta ash-Shab, Taybeh, and Rab al-Thalathine.
Tens of thousands of Israelis in the north have been displaced due to the ongoing rocket and drone attacks. The Israeli government has indicated that, if a diplomatic solution is not reached, it may resort to military action to push Hezbollah northward.
The skirmishes have resulted in significant casualties on both sides. In addition to the 18 wounded soldiers from the latest attack, Israel has reported 10 civilian deaths and 15 IDF soldiers and reservists killed in previous border clashes. Hezbollah has reported the deaths of 356 of its members since the clashes began, alongside casualties among other militant groups and civilians in Lebanon.
