Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, announced the appointment of his 16-year-old son, Adam Kadyrov, as the supervisor of a special forces training school in Gudermes. This decision follows Adam’s involvement in a widely publicized incident last year, where he was seen in a video assaulting a prisoner who had been arrested for desecrating the Koran.
Adam Kadyrov, who turned 16 last November, has held significant roles previously, including serving as his father’s top bodyguard and an observer in a new battalion under Russia’s defense ministry. His latest appointment was confirmed by Ramzan Kadyrov on the Telegram messaging app, where he expressed confidence in his son’s familiarity with the operations of the special forces university.

The school, named after Russian President Vladimir Putin, is a private educational institution in Chechnya that specializes in training for special units. The leadership of the university reportedly requested Adam’s appointment.
The incident involving Adam beating prisoner Nikita Zhuravel, who was later sentenced to three and a half years for burning the Koran, had previously attracted controversy and criticism, including from figures within pro-Kremlin circles. Despite this, Ramzan Kadyrov praised his son for defending their Muslim faith.
Ramzan Kadyrov has governed Chechnya since 2007, maintaining a strong alliance with President Vladimir Putin. This relationship has allowed him significant autonomy in managing Chechnya, including deploying Chechen fighters to Ukraine since the conflict began in February 2022.
