The tech industry saw job cuts, but companies are also hiring and seeking a variety of skills, including emotional intelligence and T-shaped skill sets, according to experts.Â
The first two months of 2023 saw heavy layoffs in tech, but some experts say it’s a regular realignment and companies are still hiring more than firing. However, tech, information, and media have seen the biggest declines since last spring, and job seekers need to keep their tech skills strong to stay competitive. Additionally, skills in automation, AI, digital marketing, and cybersecurity are critical, but so are soft skills like creativity, innovation, emotional intelligence, and inclusive leadership. To succeed in tech in 2023, people need to have a breadth of knowledge across their disciplines and depth of knowledge in one area, making them more valuable to organizations. Finally, an ongoing, proactive practice of emotional fitness is also imperative for sustainable success in tech.Â
