Residents in Ukraine struggle to stay warm amid Russia’s attacks on the country’s infrastructure, causing power outages and destruction, while soldiers on the front lines use creative solutions to keep warm during the winter.Â
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has caused severe damage to infrastructure and resulted in power outages and a lack of heating during freezing temperatures. Russian attacks on electricity infrastructure have caused extensive damage, leading to a lack of sufficient heating as temperatures drop below -7C (20F) from December to March. The situation has forced families to find creative ways to stay warm, including investing in generators and wearing multiple layers of warm clothing. Ukrainian soldiers are also provided with winter uniforms and small-scale solutions to stay warm in freezing conditions. The conflict continues to have a significant impact on the daily lives of civilians and soldiers alike.Â
