Ukrainian special forces executed an amphibious raid on the Russian-occupied Tendra Spit at the mouth of the Dnipro River. The operation reportedly invovled the Special Operations Forces of the Artan Unit and Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR), and resulted in damage to Russian equipment, fortifications, and personnel, according to Ukraine’s military intelligence agency.
The Ukrainian Defense Intelligence (DIU) confirmed on August 7 that the operation targeted Russian-held territory in the northern part of the Black Sea. The raid, carried out by the Artan Active Action Unit and DIU’s Naval Center, involved a coordinated landing on Tendra Spit. The agency released a video on social media showing well-equipped soldiers deploying from vessels and engaging targets onshore.

During the raid, Ukrainian forces reportedly destroyed Russian armored vehicles, including MT-LBs, an electronic warfare system, and several fortifications. The DIU stated that Russian forces suffered personnel losses, though the exact number remains undisclosed. The Ukrainian troops successfully withdrew without any casualties.
The DIU noted that this was not the first such operation on Tendra Spit, highlighting a series of successful assaults aimed at weakening Russian positions. Despite these claims, independent verification of the operation’s outcomes is lacking. Newsweek and other outlets have been unable to confirm the details provided by the Ukrainian side. The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the incident in its daily reports, and pro-Russian sources, such as the milblogger Rybar, have disputed the success of the Ukrainian raid, claiming that several Ukrainian boats were destroyed during the attempt.
This raid follows Ukraine’s broader strategy of launching raids across the Dnieper River and into Russian-held territories since liberating the city of Kherson and the west bank of the river in late 2022. The DIU emphasized that such operations are integral to Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to reclaim occupied territories and disrupt Russian military activities in the region.
