Early Sunday, Israeli air strikes targeted military sites and a residential building in Damascus, resulting in the death of one Syrian soldier and injuries to three others, according to the Syrian army. The strikes were reportedly launched from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attacks, stating they were in response to the launch of two drones from Syria towards Eilat, Israel’s southernmost city. The targets included a central Syrian Army command center, military infrastructure, and air defense systems.
Israel has consistently conducted strikes in Syria, aiming at what it identifies as Iran-linked targets. Tehran has increased its influence in Syria, supporting President Bashar al-Assad since the civil war began in 2011.
The IDF holds the Syrian regime responsible for attacks originating from its territory, including the recent drone launch that traveled through Jordanian airspace.Â
