The IDF stated that the operation was based on precise intelligence targeting the Hamas unit’s leadership. Yassin Rabia, the commander of Hamas’s West Bank headquarters, was said to have managed all military operations of the unit, including transferring funds for terror activities and directing attacks against Israel. Rabia had a history of involvement in deadly attacks in 2001 and 2002 that resulted in the deaths of Israeli soldiers.
Khaled Najjar, another senior official within the Hamas West Bank headquarters, was implicated in directing shooting attacks and other terror activities. The IDF reported that Najjar also facilitated the transfer of funds for Hamas operations and had personally carried out several attacks between 2001 and 2003, targeting both civilians and soldiers.
The Israeli military acknowledged the civilian casualties resulting from the strike and the subsequent fire it ignited, noting that an investigation is ongoing.
