The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported the detention of a suspected traitor in Kharkiv who was allegedly involved in providing crucial location details to Russian forces. The suspect was accused of intending to relay coordinates for launching ballistic missiles and guided KAB-500 aerial bombs at a base operated by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate’s Kraken special unit. This operation forms part of Russia’s ongoing military aggression in the region, which has included intensified attacks on Kharkiv.
According to the SBU, the arrest occurred after the suspect engaged in encrypted communications with Russian intelligence, during which he supplied them with precise coordinates for the planned attack. The communications were conducted using a mobile phone, which has been seized by the authorities. The suspect, described by the SBU as an ideological supporter of Russian imperial philosophy, was allegedly recruited by Russian operatives through social media platforms where he had previously expressed anti-Ukrainian sentiments.
In addition to his espionage activities, the suspect reportedly conducted informal inquiries within a local shopping and entertainment center to gather the required information covertly. He now faces charges related to the unauthorized dissemination of information about the movements or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with a potential sentence of up to eight years in prison.
