A Russian mercenary organization returned the body of US Special Forces veteran Nick Maimer, who was killed in Ukraine, to the US with the aid of Ukrainian allies.
The body of Nick Maimer, a US Special Forces veteran, was handed over to the US Embassy in Kyiv by a Russian mercenary group with the help of Ukrainian comrades. Maimer was killed in the city of Bakhmut while performing humanitarian work and training defense forces during the intense fighting between Russia and Ukraine. After his death, his remains were featured in a propaganda video posted by the Wagner Group, a mercenary group working alongside the Russian military. The body’s return to the US was made possible through informal negotiations between Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and the Wagner Group, despite Ukraine officially viewing the group as terrorists. Maimer’s family and friends expressed gratitude to the Ukrainians for their role in the return of his body.
