The conference will focus on how the military can adopt commercial tech to build AI capabilities it can trust and control, while also developing its own military-specific applications of commercial technologies. The DoD’s desire for control sits uneasily with AI innovators’ desire to keep trade secrets, but the conference will look to reconcile this issue. The DoD recognizes that it needs to fast-follow and own the technical baseline of these technologies. The conference will discuss topics like cybersecurity, command systems, and the Pentagon’s policy directive on the control, reliability, and ethics of autonomous weapons.
