Ukrainian soldiers have trained and are now using American Black Hawk helicopters in combat operations, which they claim are better than their Soviet counterparts in almost all aspects.Â
The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has trained its special operations units to use the American Black Hawk helicopter in combat operations. The helicopter is reported to be better than the Soviet Mi-8 and Mi-24 in almost all aspects, including reliability, ease of operation, and combat survivability. Ukrainian pilots, who have experience operating the Mi-8 and Mi-24, were able to master the Black Hawk in a matter of hours. The Black Hawk is capable of firing guided and unguided Hellfire missiles and can support infantry and transport various cargoes. Ukrainian defenders claim that they could easily receive about a hundred Black Hawk helicopters, about 50 Apache attack helicopters, and about 40-60 Chinook cargo helicopters for the retraining of their pilots.Â
